Architecture grades 2-5 (Tuesdays 3:05-4:05 PM)
Students in grades 2-5 will embark on a captivating journey through the world of design. Our engaging classes are about nurturing creativity and critical thinking skills, beyond constructing buildings. Through a 3-dimensional design process, students develop critical and logical thinking abilities as they are asked to observe, design, and create using various methods of model making and drawing.
From crafting dream homes to reimagining iconic landmarks, each class sparks imagination and empowers students to express their unique ideas. Beyond creativity, architecture education fosters a deeper connection to the environment, allowing young minds to see the world through a richer, broader lens. Exploring contemporary issues like technology, resources, and sustainability, students gain insights into the broader implications of design. Capoeira Angola 2-8 (Tuesdays 4:05-5:05 PM)
Capoeira angola is a cultural expression of African roots in Brazil that was/is a model of organizational resistance by Africans and their descendants against racism naturalized through slavery. Through song, rhythm and improvised physical play, the form trains individuals in not only the art of physical and spiritual self-defense, but also ritualizes ancestral memory, resistance and collectivity. Cultivated and propagated as a cultural practice by Mestre Pastinha in the 20th century, Capoeira Angola differs from Mestre Bimba's Capoeira Regional by having greater emphasis on characteristics such as play, elegance, sustained timing, unique style, trickery, and low-level proximity with your opponent and the ground.
This introductory course is rooted in the pedagogy of the lineage of Mestre Pastinha via the instructor’s training with descendants of this lineage, including but not limited to Mestra Janja and Mestre Poroca of Grupo Nzinga, Mestra Brisa do Mar, Mestre Aranha, and Contramestra Catarina, all in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil. Students will learn the names and meaning of moves in Portuguese, practice individually and in pairs, and learn to play and sing songs that guide the practice.

Coding Grades 2-5(Monday 3:15-4:05 PM )
Using a number of fun Coding languages designed specifically for kids such as Scratch along with HTML, CSS, JavaScript, Python, and Ruby, students will be creating a variety of projects from games to customized websites; allowing them to learn the computational logic of Computer Science. They will be learning real languages and gaining an understanding of how programming affects our world. The Winter Session Dojo will focus on creating Video Games and Apps using JavaScript and Python!

Using iPad/Asus Tablet applications like Scratch Jr, Kodable, Light bot, and Bloxels coupled with hands on board games that promote social problem-solving, Code Fu's K-2 Dojo teaches students the computational logic of Computer Science/coding as well as provides them with an introduction into a number of block based coding languages. The second session will focus on tangible coding and will be introducing robotic coding using a number of Coding Robots such as Cubetto!

Help budding palates and small hands get comfortable in the kitchen with basic skills and recipes taught by a well trained chef. Cuisines included in everybody’s favorite are : Italian, Asian, French, Chinese. Sample recipe : three cheese Mac and cheese one day with buttered dill peas on the side. Another class : Miso noodle soup with fresh organic vegetables. Everything will be seasonal and organic. We are nut free and please let us know if there are any allergies involved, we will can always accommodate.

Hanabi Judo Grades 2-5(Monday 4:30-5:30 PM)
Hanabi Judo establishes a strong base of judo technique, culture, and character. As
we jump, run, and roll we develop balance, coordination and confidence! We start out learning our names in Japanese then do movement exercises and some simple judo techniques that teach us to fall safely. We place a strong emphasis on culture so everyone speaks the language of Japan. We learn to “nete” (liedown) and to “tonde” (leap) like a “raion” (lion). Judo allows a smaller person to control an opponent bigger and stronger than themselves.We learn to hold a person down with “kesa-gatame” (scarf hold) and we practice throws where our opponent can be flipped upside-down – on Sensei. Every class finishes with games that develop physical coordination, balance and laughter. We sing in Japanese about inspiration and bow to each other respectfully. Then we say "arigotoh," thank you. Respect and discipline
