OKLA HOMMA Badge Discovery Kits
Description
Celebrate Native American Heritage Month with the OKLA HOMMA Badge Discovery Kit!
Dive into the culture, history, and heritage of Oklahoma’s Indigenous communities with our OKLA HOMMA Badge Discovery Kit, created in partnership with the First Americans Museum. This unique kit engages Girl Scouts in learning about the rich traditions, contributions, and legacies of Native American tribes, celebrating unity, tradition, and resilience.
The term “Okla Homma,” derived from the Choctaw language, means “Red People,” reflecting the deep-rooted history and cultural significance of Indigenous people in Oklahoma. Each activity in the kit honors these histories, connecting girls with cultural traditions and exploring the contributions of Native Americans, especially during Native American Heritage Month.
What's Included:
Your troop will receive step-by-step instructions, educational resources, and all materials needed to explore Native American culture through hands-on activities. Designed for flexible timing, these kits are ideal for troop meetings or as a special project that suits your troop’s schedule. Activities include traditional Native American arts and crafts, understanding the significance of tribal symbols, exploring social games, and learning about the contributions of Native American leaders.
A special opportunity awaits!
Your troop can complete one of the kit activities at the Native American Heritage Thunder Game on November 20th, hosted by the First Americans Museum. Attending the event allows girls to earn a special event sticker. The kit includes a QR code for discounted tickets and additional details.
Program Completion:
Upon completion of the activities, your Girl Scouts will earn the Oklahoma Homma Patch, symbolizing their journey in learning about Native American culture, values, and contributions.
