Counselor In Training (CIT) - (15 to 17 years) NEW!
Description
The Silver Bay YMCA Counselor in Training (CIT) program is a fantastic opportunity for teens to gain hands-on experience, develop leadership skills, and have fun while learning essential childcare and safety techniques. This full-day program is designed for young individuals looking to explore a career in childcare or youth leadership.

Morning Session (8:30 AM – 12:00 PM):
The first half of the day focuses on training and certification in JR CPR/First Aid and Water Safety Training (Junior Lifeguard). CITs will learn vital emergency response skills and water safety techniques that will prepare them for working in a variety of camp settings. These certifications will provide valuable knowledge for anyone interested in pursuing a future in lifeguarding, childcare, or any profession that requires safety training.

Afternoon Session (12:30 PM – 4:00 PM):
In the second half of the day, CITs will gain practical experience working as Junior Counselors, shadowing and assisting experienced staff in various camp groups. They will help lead activities, provide support to younger campers, and get a feel for what it’s like to be a camp counselor. CITs will have the opportunity to practice their communication, teamwork, and leadership skills, while also building confidence in their ability to manage group dynamics.

Throughout the program, CITs will be encouraged to develop their problem-solving and decision-making abilities, while receiving feedback from experienced staff members. They will leave with valuable training, certifications, and real-world childcare experience – all while having a fun and memorable summer at the Silver Bay YMCA!
