Dust off those dancing shoes and get ready to Charleston right into the glamorous and hilarious world of The Drowsy Chaperone, where the jazz age comes to life in all its glitzy glory! In this class, students will dive into the side-splitting comedy, show-stopping production numbers, and larger-than-life characters from this Tony Award-winning musical. You'll learn dynamic choreography, vocal techniques, and comedic timing as you bring this delightful parody of 1920s musicals to the stage. Together as an ensemble, you'll master the essential musical theatre skills needed to shine. It’s going to be a fabulous experience—uproarious, jazzy, and unforgettable!

All Musical Theatre: Selections from… classes are designed to be repeated, with students exploring and experiencing a new musical each camp.

*Students will work on and perform 1-3 songs from The Drowsy Chaperone for their Sharing Performance on Friday. This is NOT a full production camp.

Musical Theatre Classes at this Age Range work on:
• Understanding more complex choreography
• Learning about proper breath control while singing
• Understanding musical structure and basic harmonies
• Maintaining vocal volume while dancing
• Learning theatre and dance vocabulary, and utilizing stage directions in choreography
• Understanding spacing (finding their window) and seamless transitions during choreographed numbers
• Maintaining safe vocal technique when projecting (using loud, clear voices)
• Deep physical characterization through specific movements as a specific character
• Filling a song with clear and distinct character choices
• Working as an ensemble
• Exercising discipline as they work toward the goal of the show
• Having an absolute blast!

NCT’s focus is always the healthy development of young people. We believe that the skills that students learn in the process of creative play will serve them in their everyday lives as well as provide a foundation if they choose to continue to more theatre work (which we hope they do!).

NCT offers free extended care for our families. Before Care opens at 7:30AM and After Care closes at 5:30PM. You can add this service during registration or on a day-to-day basis during the camp week. Extended care consists of supervised unstructured free time. Students are welcome to bring a book or electronic device (that NCT is not responsible for). During After Care, we will also have a daily option of a G or PG-rated children’s movie playing as an activity choice.
