In Kids Company, students will learn theatre vocabulary and build foundational skills in the actor’s toolbox of body, voice, and imagination. Emphasis is placed on working as a team, developing expressive communication skills, and learning how to commit to imagined circumstances. The class will culminate in a full-scale musical production with a professional set, costumes, and lighting designed and produced by local professionals. During rehearsal, students will rehearse their parts and receive individual coaching, play ensemble games to build their teamwork as a class, and develop their expressive theatre skills through drama games and exercises. In addition, through participating in musical theatre processes, students will further develop their “triple threat” skills of singing, acting, and dancing.
Show Description:
This summer, Kids Company presents Imagine A Dragon: A New Musical!
The dragon is back in town! Well… not really. That’s the story a ragtag band of innkeepers makes up, desperate to draw questing heroes to the struggling Dancing Dragon Inn. Soon the inn is full of unexpected guests, from an army of princesses out to prove their bravery, to a group of overwhelmed heroes trying to hold onto their fame. But what happens if they all discover the innkeepers’ dragon story is made up? Could there be more than one way to save the day? An epic folk-rock score brings magic to this funny, heartfelt fantasy musical.

NCT’s focus is always the healthy development of young people. We believe that the skills that students learn in the process of creative play will serve them in their everyday lives as well as provide a foundation if they choose to continue to more theatre work (which we hope they do!).
