Session 7 2025 (Deep Sea Week)
Description
Let’s explore our deep sea! Your child will enjoy learning about different marine ecosystems in our ocean's depths. We will also enjoy a visit from the CSH Whaling Museum. Our younger cohort will learn about the fascinating lives of 19th century whalers and the importance of whaling in American history, especially on Long Island. Students learn the how, why, and when of whale hunting, touch authentic nautical artifacts used on whaling ships, and understand the need for whale conservation today. The older cohort will explore whaling on LI and beyond. These campers will deepen their perspective of how the whaling industry shaped communities, while inspiring the globe's first environmental movement. All sessions consist of guided nature walks through the Fuchs Pond Preserve, where campers will explore our coastal woodlands and freshwater pond and get a chance to collect and observe these wonderful creatures. Campers will also enjoy a trip to Sunken Meadow State Park's salt marsh where campers will experience seining and interact with local marine life with our on staff Marine Biologist!
