Intro to Block Printing: Connecting the Misty Forest
Description
Explore the connections between the forests of Papua New Guinea and the Pacific Northwest in this introduction to block printing course. Local artist Kayla Ann will guide students through the fundamental techniques of lino cutting, drawing inspiration from the new Forest Trailhead exhibit coming to the Zoo in 2026. Throughout the course, students will learn how to transfer their designs onto blocks, skillfully carve those designs, and successfully print on paper and fabric. Students will leave class feeling inspired, equipped with the skills to continue block printing at home, and take home a printed tote bag as a reminder of their creative journey and the beautiful biome we call home in the PNW.

This class is intended for adults.

*Students will need to provide/purchase the following items to participate in the program. Tote bags will be provided by the zoo.
