CAIS Fall Camping October 4 - 6
Description
Sign ups for the CAIS school-wide camping trip on October 4 - 6 are now open!

We’re expecting a large crowd and encourage you to sign up as soon as possible. Sign-ups will be open August 22 - September 1.

The highlight of CAIS camping weekend will be our community dinner on Saturday evening. This event is one of the biggest fundraisers for the FSA with proceeds going towards other community building events & staff/teacher appreciation.

The intent of the weekend is to have fun, build community and relax in nature. We hope to see you there!

FAQS

When will sign ups go live?
Sign ups are open now on UltraCamp. We have a limited number of campsites and day-passes and encourage you to sign up soon for this popular event. Sign-ups will end September 1st and refund requests will end September 3rd.

Where is Olema campground?
Olema Campground is located next to the Point Reyes National Seashore, just north of San Francisco. It is approximately a 1.5 hour drive from the new campus on 19th Avenue.

Pt Reyes Station, a small town with a grocery store, casual and gourmet eateries, is a 5 minute drive away. Oyster farms are a 15-30 minute drive away.
There’s plenty of open areas for playing so bring bikes, frisbees, jump ropes, badminton sets, etc…

Do I need to come for the whole weekend?
No, come when it is best for your family! We have campers coming up Friday night and on Saturday day/morning. There are also day passes available for Saturday for those who do not wish to spend the night at the campground. We encourage you to arrive by Saturday afternoon. Campsites need to be cleaned and cleared by Sunday at noon.

Can I please get more information about Saturday night dinner, what is it?
The Saturday night communal barbecue will feature snacks, traditional grilled meats, salmon, veggies, and s'mores for kids of all ages! Dietary needs are requested during sign up and to date we’ve been able to accommodate everyone.

Tell me more about the volunteer opportunities for Saturday night dinner -
Each adult family member is expected to participate in some way in putting on the communal Saturday night barbecue. Here's a guide for volunteer opportunities. Select how you'd like to help during the checkout process! This is designed to build community across grade levels 😉

In the past we’ve noted that older kids, particularly in middle school, relish the opportunity to volunteer and carry responsibility. They are eligible for volunteer opportunities too! (see the guide above)

What about other meals?
Families will be responsible for all other meals (and Saturday night dinner if they did not sign up). There are local eating options in Pt Reyes Station if you prefer to dine out.

How does tent camping work?
You bring all the camping gear and we will assign you to a camping spot that is clustered with other families from your child’s grade-level. The spots are large and we assign two families per spot, one car per family. Each campsite is equipped with one picnic table and one fire ring. Campsite assignments will be sent out approximately one week prior to the event.

I’ve never been camping, what do I do?
This has been the first camping trip ever for many CAIS families. It’s well organized (thanks 20+ years of CAIS putting this on), dinner is provided and there are lots of people to help out. The key is: be prepared! Talk to a friend who’s been camping about equipment. To get equipment– buy it, borrow it or rent it! There are rentals at Sports Basement in Stonestown mall. Here is a basic packing list that may be helpful. Need more help? Talk to us!

I have an RV/camper van– can I join too?
Unfortunately, we were unable to secure camper van and RV sites for the October trip, although we will have them for the May trip. Any vehicle with a holding tank for sink, toilet or shower must be in the RV area. For October camping, we need to stick with tents for overnight stays at Olema campground. We apologize because an RV group beat us to the booking!

When is check out time?
All sites must be cleaned and cleared by noon on Sunday, October 6.

I don’t like to camp– can I still participate?
Yes! We are setting aside about 45 day-use spots. It’s still a lot of fun to just come up for the day. There are alternative lodging options nearby if you wish to make a weekend of it.

Are dogs welcome?
Unfortunately, we are no longer allowed to have dogs at Olema. However, we are working with the campsite to regain our dog privileges for the May camping trip.

The dates for this trip don’t work for me, when is the next one?
Mark your calendar for May 30 - June 1, 2025 for the next round of CAIS camping!

I want to be more involved, how can I do more?
It takes a lot of hands for the successful running of these events. We are grateful for anyone who steps up to help in the planning and execution phases for CAIS camping. We are looking for new dinner team leadership. The fall camping trip is a great time to shadow a position for future trips. Please reach out to Samara Tavares (mom of Isabel, 1st grade) or Laurel Yang (mom of Lia, 1st grade & Jaren, Preschool 4), if you are interested.
