CIT ()Counselor-in-Training
Description
Counselor-in-training (CIT): Ages 16 with experience as a Camper at CT for at least 2 years, Age 17 with no prior camp experience.
This program is for young men and women who want to begin working at Camp Turner. Participants must be 16 years of age before the summer begins, have working papers and complete a staff application. Those who do well in this program may be invited to apply and interview during this session for a paid position for the remainder of the summer (offers based on current needs).
This program has several components including outdoor education, leadership training, service learning, journaling, spiritual reflection, discernment, team building and staff training. Participants will spend week one in staff training with regular camp staff. Week 2 is a service based learning experience with opportunities for debrief, reflection and discernment. CITs will assist with many activities around camp week 2 including cleaning, dishwashing, lite maintenance work, taking pictures, serving food, and assisting in other areas of camp as needed.
Participants will have the opportunity to earn certifications in Wilderness First Aid, CPR, AED, Bloodborne Pathogens at no cost. Most senior staff and camp administration have come through this program.
Previous experience as a camper (especially Explorers) is helpful. Space is limited to six male and six female CITs per session. This program is learning focused. There is no backpacking trip required.
