Arrowhead, Counselor-in-Training, July 8-30, Grades 10-12
Description
Want to be a camp counselor? Get a taste of what it’s like to be one as a Counselor-in-Training (CIT)! Over almost four weeks, you’ll live with your fellow CITs developing the skills and experience needed to make your dream a reality! Your counselors will teach you how to plan and facilitate activities, how to encourage teamwork and personal growth, and what directors are looking for when hiring camp staff. You will hone your outdoor skills and plan adventures with your group, all while serving as role models to younger campers.

As the weeks progress, you’ll take on more individual responsibility as you partner with counselors to lead younger campers in songs, leadership games, and camp activities. During the second weekend, you will return home to rest up, do laundry, and get excited for the rest of your session.

Upon return, CITs will leave camp to visit other local overnight camps in the area. You'll get to explore camp-specific activities, meet other CITs at those camps, and get a better picture of some of the potential careers in the camp industry. You’ll even have the opportunity to go on a high ropes course!

Back at camp, you’ll put all that you learned during your CIT program to the test by working side by side with counselors to create camp magic for younger campers which may include helping lead an art project, games in the field, and helping with a campfire performance. At the end of your time at camp, you’ll experience CIT “graduation” and celebrate all of your accomplishments!

After completing a CIT program, you are eligible to work at an overnight camp the following summer! Due to limited space, high demand for CIT programs, and a desire to provide the highest quality leadership experience, there is an application process for this session. This session is designed for those who have a love for camp and have demonstrated a strong desire to expand their leadership skills working with children. Applications will be available at girlscoutsosw.org/camp starting December 10th, 2024.

Application reviews and the scheduling of interviews will begin in January. Any applications received after this time will still be reviewed based on available space. Learn what it takes to create camp magic as a Counselor-in-Training!
