Session 5C - Orkila Summer Intern (OSI)
Description
Entering grade 12 in the fall of 2025. Must be under 18 for duration of program. Our Orkila Summer Internship (OSI) program is a unique, multi-faceted leadership experience that prepares teens for future positions of responsibility. The internship offers a great chance to develop your resume, gain work experience, and build friendships. Teens will receive training and then will fulfill various roles around camp during an exciting four weeks, expanding their leadership knowledge and enhancing the camp experience. After completing the OSI program, teens will have accumulated at least 400 hours of community service in recognition of their time working at Camp Orkila. OSIs will attend training that includes behavior management, Child Abuse Prevention, program quality and more. OSIs will develop many transferable skills during training and throughout the program. Two weeks of the program will be spent working “in-unit” alongside cabin counselors to supervise campers, and two weeks assisting in interdisciplinary roles that support camp operations. During the “in-unit” weeks, OSIs will work directly with campers, assisting and shadowing cabin counselors in the day to day of a camper’s experience. OSIs will lead activities, facilitate games, help with homesickness, and be a mentor for youth. During interdisciplinary weeks, OSIs will shadow support staff (e.g., Kitchen, Housekeeping, Health Hut, etc.) and specialized program staff (e.g., Arts & Earth, Adventure Team, Media Team, Gardener, etc.). In these diverse settings, OSIs will gain a holistic understanding of how camp functions and get the chance to explore other jobs at camp beyond the traditional cabin counselor role. OSIs will live in various cabins throughout the program. OSIs might live in single-gender or mix-gender cabins with campers, OSI cabins, and staff cabins based on their role at camp for the session and other factors. *Application, interview, and references, and background check required. Accepted applicants will receive registration instructions.

We are committed to making YMCA Camping and Outdoor Leadership programs more accessible for everyone. We have lowered our pricing options and developed a voluntary sliding fee schedule. Simply select the price most appropriate for your family. Your selections are completely confidential and do not impact the quality of your camper’s experience.

Price A reflects the full price of sending a camper to the program selected. This level represents the full price of camp operations, including support for long-term maintenance, repairs, and facility enhancements.

Price B is partially sponsored by funds generously contributed by our supporters to help families unable to afford the full price of the program.

Price C is the lowest price, funded by generous contributions donated by our supporters to the greatest extent possible.

Our goal is to remove barriers that prevent anyone from participating in our programs, including financial barriers. If our lowest prices still create a financial barrier that prevents you from participating in our programs, we invite you to fill out a Financial Assistance Application. Once we have reviewed and approved your application, you will receive an email confirming the percentage you have been awarded. The percentage awarded will automatically be applied to your account and be reflected in your final balance. A $50 deposit will still be required to confirm your reservation.
