Are you interested in sports, healthcare, or just learning valuable life-saving skills? Our Sports Medicine Summer Course is the perfect opportunity for students to gain practical knowledge in sports injury care, injury prevention, and general healthcare skills. This course is required for any student who wishes to serve as a student athletic trainer for fall or winter sports teams, including football, field hockey, volleyball, soccer, and basketball. Certification is also valid for spring sports, making it an essential step for aspiring trainers.
Course Highlights:
• CPR and First Aid Certification: Students will complete certified First Aid and CPR training, with the certification exam serving as the course’s final project. These credentials are highly valuable for athletic trainers and anyone pursuing a career in healthcare.
• Comprehensive Sports Medicine Curriculum: Learn foundational skills that athletic trainers use every day. Topics include:
o Understanding the role of an Athletic Trainer
o Proper documentation methods (SOAP notes, HOPS)
o Wound care and general injury identification
o Anatomy and injury management for the head, neck, shoulders, arms, legs, and more
o General rehabilitation exercises and injury prevention techniques
Beyond Sports:
This course is not just for athletes or those interested in athletic training. It’s also ideal for students curious about careers in medicine, physical therapy, or other healthcare fields. This one trimester course counts .333 credits toward Parish graduation requirements, and it fulfills one third of the required Athletics credits for graduation. The course is graded PASS/FAIL.

Dates & Times for In-Person Sessions:
Students must attend an orientation session and FIVE of the seven in person sessions.

Orientation in May: Wednesday, May 7th at 4:15pm

In-Person Sessions (must attend at least FOUR sessions and the FINAL Certification)

• Week 1: Tues, July 8, 10:30 am - 12 pm; Wed, July 9, 10:30 am - 12 pm
• Week 2: Tues, July 15, 10:30 am - 12 pm; Wed, July 16, 10:30 am - 12 pm
• Week 3: Tues, July 22, 10:30 am - 12 pm; Wed, July 23, 10:30 am - 12 pm

Final Project: CPR Certification on Wednesday, July 30 from 10:30 - 12:30pm
