Mon. Apr 28 - Be the Change Field Trip
Take a step into the Mammal Hall and learn the secrets that have helped California wildlife survive and thrive in the unique biome that is Santa Barbara. Learn the secrets of Seal Blubber and Sea Otter fur, and why the black bear has reigned supreme in the Santa Ynez Mountains. Learn the tracks of coyote and compare them to those of our k9 companions! We will hone our observational skills and learn the ways of the wild.
This Environmental Conservation field trip is appropriate for 5th-12th grades. Students will learn about climate change by closely observing the museum’s interactive exhibits. Students will also have the chance to get hands-on experience in different methods of community science to monitor our local environment at the museum. We hope this will spark students’ curiosity and give them the tools they need to continue monitoring and caring for nature in their own backyards. But, knowing is half the battle – we also will learn how to use this knowledge for advocacy of environmental justice in our communities.
