Creative Writing
Description
In this interactive workshop, students will flex their creative writing muscles and gain a deeper understanding of both the structure and techniques of writing a short story. Meetings will include (but are not limited to) sample readings of the genre, writerly advice, writing exercises, lessons on craft, take-home assignments, and sharing one’s writing in a friendly workshop environment. Each student will complete one short story by the workshop’s end. If you really love to write, this is a great opportunity. There’s nothing like being a part of a community of writers.
This session DOES NOT include lunch for your camper. Lunch can be added in the Options menu for $40/week.

FACULTY BIO: Melissa Larson, Upper School & Middle School English Teacher/Middle School Tennis Coach
Melissa Larson has been teaching since 2002; she has taught at the middle school, high school, and college levels. Ms. Larson joined the Stuart community in 2017 and is an Upper School English teacher. Nothing brings her more joy than helping students find truth, beauty, and humor in literature as they become strong critical thinkers and writers. A published writer, she has had the pleasure of leading writing workshops across New Jersey for middle school students, high school students, and adults, and particularly enjoys leading creative writing workshops for the Stuart Summer Experience. She also has a robust background in standardized test preparation. A New Jersey native, Ms. Larson enjoys running around the beach with her family.

Lunch is available for purchase for $40/week for half day programs and Camp Stuart preschool programs. All other full day programs include lunch. For Lower, Middle, and Upper School camps, morning sessions end at 11:45 and afternoon sessions begin at 12:15. Lunch is held in the Student Center from 11:45-12:15. 		+ $40.00
