Chefs in Training-Storybook Cooking
Description
There are few things that excite young children as much as the prospect of actually cooking! Using some of their favorite stories as inspiration for the recipes just adds to the fun. Join Suzy Brooks in this hands-on class where children experience the joy of reading and discussing food-themed stories, then eating the "featured food" they had a hand in making. Each day we will read books about pigs that eat pancakes, dragons that love tacos, sun-shaped bread to cheer up a rainy town, the history and science of popping corn and many other classic children’s tales. Then children help to either cook the food featured in the story or create an edible character that has the starring role in the story of the day. In addition to cooking and creating snacks, students will learn and practice basic cooking safety rules, the importance of cleanliness and how "not to share germs" during food preparation. We will read a book about germs so they gain an understanding of those "seemingly invisible" creatures. Some stories and foods will be familiar favorites, some will be new and exciting, but all will be loved! Of course, the best part for the campers will be eating the final results. Don’t miss out on all the fun!
