Building Resilience through Video Games
Description
Most children, teens, and adults of all ages partake in playing video games as a way to decompress themselves from their stressful daily lives. However, for those who play "competitive games", the ability to properly decompress may not be in the forefront of their mind. The goal of this camp is to provide resiliency training and coping skills for students by using "competitive" video games.
Middle and High School aged students undergo a wide variety of changes throughout their school years. Transitioning into higher grades, taking on more extracurricular activities, finding their place in their school community and friends, etc. All these changes can bring about some emotional turmoil, whether it's apparent on the surface or not, and resiliency training can help them process those emotions in a healthy, non-judgmental, and safe way. Using video games as a medium helps create an environment where the stakes are not as serious, yet there is still some inherent competition that can occur between students.
