ICC MAIN CENTER SUMMER CAMPS 2024-Bharatnatyam, Kalari Payattu & Theater Camp with Carrom
Description
9AM to 12PM: Bharatnatyam, Theatre and Martial Art Camp
In this Dance, Theatre and Martial Art Summer Camp, students will learn to boldly knit together dance, singing, martial arts, stories, and music into seamless dance theatre works. Students will learn basics of Kalaripayattu, a unique South Indian martial art form, and this is one of the rare offerings at summer camps in the Bay Area. Along with theatrical explorations, dance mudras and movements, musicality, storytelling, and rhythm, students will get an opportunity to present a showcase at the end of the camp.
Bharatanatyam is one of the most popular six Indian classical dance forms. The students will get an opportunity to learn with Guru Dr. Aparna Sindhoor in the Mysore Style Bharatanatyam. All levels and age groups are welcome.
Kalari ppayattu is one of the oldest martial arts in the world. It originated in India and is called the “mother of all martial arts.” The students will get an opportunity to learn with master teacher Guru Anil Natyaveda.
Sindhoor and Natyaveda come together as NAVARASA to introduce the concept of Theatre as well, through this camp. With their theatrical productions all over the world, we are delighted and proud to collaborate with Navarasa to enrich the communities around us.
By the end of this module, the Gurus will be able to assess the learnings of students and will be able to assign the next module for those who wish to excel in Bharatnatyam.
12:45PM to 3:30PM : Young Strikers: Kids Carrom Camp
AIM. STRIKE. POCKET! Get crackin' with CARROM, a wonderful game of skill, strategy, finesse, focus, and a boatload of FUN?! Also known as “finger billiards”, Carrom is a tabletop game common in households throughout the Indian subcontinent, which is now rapidly gaining popularity as a mainstream competitive sport worldwide (In fact, this year’s Carrom World Cup will be happening right here at ICC Milpitas in November, with 20+ countries participating!). A classic indoor table-top game that is agnostic to age, gender or physical ability, Carrom combines elements of billiards, chess, and shuffleboard, and is particularly well-suited for kids.
Benefits of Carrom:
Improve focus and concentration
Improve hand-eye coordination and fine motor skills
Intuitively learn physics, geometry, math and probability
Develop patience, discipline, and perseverance
Improve analytical and problem-solving skills
Help avoid screen time!
Safe for kids (no electronic parts, cables or batteries)
Can be enjoyed rain or shine
Great way to bond with family & friends!
…all of the above, while having FUN!
In this week-long immersive camp organized by the Bay Area Carrom Association (BACA) in partnership with ICC and Carrom Zone, campers will get a hands-on introduction to the game of Carrom under the expert guidance of some of the top players and coaches of the country. The curriculum will use the Carrom Zone method to introduce kids to Carrom, which emphasizes the fundamentals of practicing carrom the right way, and also provides a framework for players to measure their progress along the way. Tournament-grade carrom equipment provided by BACA will be used in the camp, campers don’t have to bring anything (personal strikers are okay).
