Description
Agastya USA's Math Fiesta - A Summer of Mathematical Discovery
Welcome to the vibrant and exciting "Agastya’s STEM Camp – Math Fiesta". This week is all about sparking curiosity, nurturing creativity, and instilling confidence in students through specially designed hands-on experiential activities and models in Mathematics.
Themes and Experiments
Fractions Fantasia | Fractions/Factorization - Types of Fractions, LCM, GCD, Factors of GCD
Triangle Tales | Geometry - Triangles - Types, Triangles - Properties
Shapes and Spaces |2D Figures - Area of 2D figures (Circle, Square, Rectangles etc)
Square Symphony |Life Sciences - Diaphragm Model (Build & Learn from a model of the human lungs)
Number Carnival |Mathematical Puzzles - Sum of n Natural numbers, Brahma's tower, Understanding π, Puzzles
During this engaging week, students will dive deep into various mathematical concepts through interactive and fun-filled activities. They'll explore fractions, LCM (Least Common Multiple), and GCD (Greatest Common Divisor) by playing and learning with flashcards, making abstract concepts tangible and enjoyable. The exploration continues with activities focused on understanding different types of triangles and their properties using activity sheets and templates, providing a hands-on approach to geometry.
Further, students will logically understand algebraic identities by building simple models for derivations, turning abstract algebra into a concrete and visual learning experience. This approach not only aids in comprehension but also fosters a deeper interest in mathematical reasoning. They'll also explore the properties of 2D shapes, measuring dimensions using colorful templates, and applying these concepts to real-world scenarios, making mathematics relevant and practical.
In addition to hands-on activities, students will be challenged with engaging puzzles that encourage critical and logical thinking, applying the mathematics concepts they've learned in a problem-solving context.
This Math summer camp is meticulously designed to cultivate a genuine interest in Mathematics, simplifying complex concepts, making learning effective, and encouraging practical application.
Join us for a week of mathematical exploration, creativity, and problem-solving at "Agastya USA's STEM Camp – Math Fiesta", where learning math is a celebration!
ICC and Agastya USA* have joined hands to bring you fun-filled “Agastya’s Hands-On STEM Camps” to spark curiosity and nurture creativity in your children through the expertise of the world’s largest hands-on education program, Agastya International Foundation.
*Agastya USA, www.agastyausa.org is a non-profit [501(c)(3)] organization that supports the world’s largest hands-on, immersive experiential learning program, run by Agastya International Foundation in India. Our mission is to spark curiosity, creativity and confidence in school children and teachers alike, through outreach programs based in science, art, ecology and design thinking.
BEGINNER CHESS CLASS:
The class is one and a half hour long, split into two segments. In the first half hour, a coach gives a lesson on a theme, idea, motif, or classical game. Students participate by debating and attempting to find the best move in certain positions. We follow a curriculum that is tailored to the level of the class. In the beginner class, Our primary focus is tactics, endgames, and identifying checkmating patterns. Homework is given to supplement the topics covered in class and reviewed the following week. We also review classical chess games to learn from the successes and failures of masters from previous eras. The class will cover basic pieces: Pawns, Knights, Bishops, Rooks, The Queens, and The King. In addition, the basic concepts such as Check, Checkmate, Castling, En Passant, and Draws. We cover these concepts using practical examples from the history of chess.
INTERMEDIATE CHESS CLASS:
The class is one and a half hour long, split into two segments. In the first half hour, a coach gives a lesson on a theme, idea, motif, or classical game. Students participate by debating and attempting to find the best move in certain positions. We follow a curriculum that is tailored to the level of the class. This intermediate class will look at how chess has changed from era to era. We will be exploring games from the early 1800s to the late 1900s and discover the amazing history of this timeless game. We will learn about the heroes of chess from Paul Morphy to Bobby Fischer. We will also go over forks, pins, skewers, remove the guard, discover attacks, decoys, and sacrifices. We cover these concepts using practical examples from the history of chess.
Optional Taekwondo Fun:
Each day ends with an energizing hour of taekwondo, helping kids build confidence, focus, and physical fitness.
This engaging, hands-on camp inspires creativity, encourages healthy habits, and fosters a love for movement—all in a fun, supportive environment.
